Galashiels Town Trail

About This Route

The name Galashiels probably means shelter by the full stream (Gwala – full stream and shiel – shelter). Galashiels is the largest town in the region so her Town Trail is quite extensive, therefore, the trail is divided in to two parts. The trail is designed to give you an understanding of the town and her history. There are plaques on the buildings that are highlighted in the trail. This will give you an opportunity to explore streets that you might not have thought to visit.
