Hornshole, Ormiston and Cavers

Walking

Following the old railway line out of Hawick this route explores the area north-east of the town crossing over the infamous Hornshole Bridge; infamous due to the battle fought here in 1514.

Here was a skirmish between English and Scots men in the aftermath of the Battle of Flodden (1513). There is a monument to commemorate this small Scottish victory in the wake of their crushing defeat at Flodden.
